Video: What to Do After You Submit Your College Applications

You've already submitted your college applications, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to do! Here are some ways to keep busy after hitting submit.

You’ve probably finished filling out and submitting all your college applications unless you’re applying to a school with rolling admission. But that’s far from the end of a college-bound student’s work! Janice has a few reminders for what to do now that your applications have been submitted. Check out the video below.

Financial aid (0:26)

Some colleges require a separate financial aid application or a separate application for specific scholarships. Make sure you’re aware of those applications and their deadlines, and send in the proper paperwork before it’s due.

Scholarships (0:45)

On top of scholarships awarded directly from your college or university, you may be eligible for many third-party scholarships. You can find these scholarships anywhere, from local businesses to scholarship websites. (Hint: CollegeXpress has tons of scholarships!)

Mid-year reports (1:35)

Make sure your mid-year reports reflect your best possible grades. Check yourself if you’re starting to get caught up in senioritis. Talk to your teachers if you’ve been struggling recently and make sure you end the year on a high note.

Interviews (2:01)

There might still be time for you to go on college interviews! Talk to your admission counselor to see if there are any alumni in your area who you can interview with.

More campus tours (2:51)

Now that you’ve applied, head back to those colleges for campus tours. Make sure you really love the campus. Talk to current students and really get a feel for where you want to go when you’re accepted to college.

As I transition to furthering my education, I can say with certainty that it simply wouldn’t be possible without the help of generous organizations such as CollegeXpress. Those who initially founded CX had no idea their platform would give a plethora of information to a first-generation homeless kid native to the ghettos of over half a dozen states. Everyone at CX and Carnegie Dartlet gave me a chance at a future when the statistics said I had none. And for that, I thank them.

I wanted a school that wasn't too far away from home and could provide me with a full-ride scholarship. CollegeXpress helped me put into perspective the money I had to pay to attend those schools, which ultimately drove me to choose to attend a community college first to get used to being in college before transferring to the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, one of the colleges I was able to research further on CollegeXpress.

CollegeXpress showed me that Western New England University was a great match for me both with curriculum and location. CollegeXpress is an excellent resource both future and current college students.

To say that CollegeXpress is a helpful tool would be an understatement as it is much more than that. Before finding CollegeXpress, all I knew was that I wanted to go to college, it was going to be insanely expensive, and I felt lost. CollegeXpress has given me access to resources such as helpful tips for applications and scholarship [opportunities], and helped guide me in a direction where I feel confident moving forward and pursuing a career. CollegeXpress has helped instill a spark in me that makes me want to continue and supports me in doing so.

CollegeXpress has helped me tremendously during my senior year of high school. I started off using the college search to find more information about the universities I was interested in. Just this tool alone gave me so much information about a particular school. It was my one-stop shop to learn about college. I was able to find information about college tuition, school rank, majors, and so much more that I can't list it all. The college search tool has helped me narrow down which college I want to attend, and it made a stressful process surprisingly not so stressful. I then moved to the scholarship search tool to find scholarships to apply for because I can't afford to pay for tuition myself. The search tool helped me find scholarships that I was eligible for. The tool gave me all the information I could ever need about a particular scholarship that was being offered. The CollegeXpress scholarship search tool is so much better than other tools offered, like the Chegg scholarship search. Thanks to CollegeXpress, I was able to apply to tons of scholarships in a relatively easy way!
